Todmorden 2019 - ongoing
Following my earlier project in Levenshulme, I continued this work after relocating to Todmorden in 2019. Through a call-out posted in a local Facebook group, I offered free portraits to residents and their cats. The project served as both an artistic inquiry and a way to engage with a new community, to build connection through photography and a shared love for cats.
The resulting photographs offer a record of place, people, and time, capturing not only the intimate relationships between humans and animals, but also the character of a town known for its eccentric spirit, community resilience, and grassroots activism.
Close Encounters is both a visual archive and a personal love letter to Todmorden, a place of guerrilla gardeners, radical hospitality, and the quiet poetry of everyday life.
