These portraits are of people who responded to an advertisement I posted on a Facebook group set up for cat owners in my local area. The aim was not to make images of cats per se, but rather the pet offered access into strangers’ homes and to possibly learn more about local people who had little more in common than owning a cat. Each portrait I took was a negotiation and a collaboration with my sitter, and the project offered me a way to connect with my local community in a way that is often hard to do today.
